What you can do

Lionfish are invasive which means they have no known natural predators and eat everything that is in its natural habitat. This is believed to have happened because people released lionfish from their aquariums into the ocean in around the 1980’s. Since they have no known predators, they have flourished and now are overpopulated.

What you can do:

  • Never release a lionfish into the wild from your aquarium
  • In some areas, you are supposed to alert the beach patrol people if you see a lionfish so they can get rid of it
  • Eat lionfish so they can be a delicacy and there for be less populated (I’m not sure how they taste :P)
  • Don’t touch them!
